On September 26, 2023 President Bola Tinubu has approved payment for the procurement of 12 attack helicopters for the Nigerian Army.

According to The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Taoreed Lagbaja, a lieutenant general that the 12 MD 530F Cayuse attack helicopters would operationalise the Nigerian army aviation unit, which was set up to improve ground troops’ agility, responsiveness, and efficacy during operations.
The COAS added that it would also contribute to the overall operational success of joint and coalition troops.
While on this some Biafran stated that the new 12 war helicopter that was approved by Tinubu wasn’t meant to fight boko haram but the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB)
