Lekki protesters were likely shot by hoodlums – AGF

By on November 3rd, 2020

Attorney-General of the federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has said there is a possibility that hoodlums not soldiers shot #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos state on Tuesday, October 20.

Over two weeks ago, protests calling for the disbandment of the special anti-robbery squad (SARS) rocked several states across the country.

Protesters who continued protests, converged on the tollgate on Tuesday night and were met by gunfire from military men, leading to the death and injury of many.

The Army initially denied sending soldiers to the Lekki Toll Plaza but days later, stated that their presence was requested by the Lagos State Government to restore normalcy.

However, speaking with journalists on Monday, Malami who said investigation is underway to ascertain what truly happened in Lekki, stated that hoodlums likely opened fire on the protesters.

“You cannot rule out the possibility of perhaps hoodlums that set in to create a scene… could equally partake in the process,” the AGF said.
