The purpose of the outfit called Eastern Security Network (ESN) is to provide security against agrarian violence, kidnapping and banditry in the former Eastern region, comprising the South-East and some parts of the present South-South geo-political zone.
A similar security outfit had been launched in the South-Western states by the region’s state governments in response to the rise of the same types of criminal activities.
In response to these crimes, the Eastern Security Network was launched by IPOB, a proscribed organisation with a vast following from Igbo youths. IPOB is also at daggers with South-East state governments and the Federal government.
The South-East Governors have condemned the ESN while the leader of IPOB warns the governors not to obstruct the group’s security work or face the consequences.
This is a total hands-down to everyone against Biafra agitation.
