  The more Victoria cried the more the density of the pain increased. She started shaking as a result of so much tears. Victoria stood up slowly picked up her bag and started going towards her house. It was already late so she managed herself and went into her house. 

 The next day Victoria had gotten herself prepared for school. She has always been an early bird. Victoria dressed neatly as usual and went to school. She could see fellow students pointing at her . Some laughed while some shook their head in disbelieve when they heard she was pregnant.

Victoria was surprised how the news had spread like wide fire all over the school within few hours Mrs Fokem found out. When class started, her class mates turned around and gossiped with her name. Victoria saw Amaka walking into the class.

Amaka had been in the principal's office ever since she came to school. They were trying to confirm if truly Victoria was pregnant.

   Victoria rushed towards Amaka to hug her at least to reduce some pains. Amaka turned her back on her and walked away. Her mother Mrs Fokem had warned her sternly to stay away from Victoria. It was Mrs Fokem that told the school Authorities that Victoria their best student was pregnant.

 Victoria tried her best to hold the tears in by folding her lips. But the pain was so much she couldn't hold the tears back. Even her best friend had turned her back on her too?

  As the tears flow down the cheeks of Victoria, she ran back to her sit and placed her head on the desk crying. Some students pitied her while others made fun of her. 

  Our virgin Mary is pregnant oh a student said and others bursted out laughing. Don't you know Pretenders do the worst? Another student said. Another carried a water flask and raised it up in the front of the class and shouted..

Vicky Vicky some guys screamed.

 Victoria felt as if the ground should open and swallow her. She wanted to escape from the class but don't know how to.

 Suddenly the class became calm and everyone was seated. Victoria raised her head and saw the principal inside her class. 

 Victoria Linus he called out. Victoria stood up slowly wiping off her tears.Carry your bag and follow me to my office he said and walked away. 

At the principal’s office

 News getting to us suggests that you are pregnant is that true he asked looking at Victoria.

She nodded her head slowly in acceptance.

Can you tell me who is responsible? The principal asked

It’s Corper Micheal Victoria said and a tear dropped down her cheeks.

No wonder he left earlier than expected telling me he had an emergency. You should have told me the instant he made advances towards you. Now see the mess you've gotten yourself into.

 I shouldn't be doing but I will, these are some of his files they principal said handing them over to Victoria with a letter of expulsion. 

 I'm sorry Victoria but you're expelled from this school and can't continue schooling in any reputable school in umuokpa. Parents have it that you'll be a bad egg to their children.

 Victoria broke down in tears as she collected the file and letter from the principal and walked out of his office and the school. No mother ever wanted her child to associate with Victoria. Women would raise the tip of their lips up and shake their head at her when she walked along the road while some men keep calling her to have a taste of her too. 

  Victoria hasn't eaten since the morning but hunger was far from her. She was filled with her own tears. Victoria kept on thinking of a way forward. A thought came into her head, she needs to leave the village. But where will she go to?

  But it was better for her to die off in an unknown land than to die of depression in the village. That same night, Victoria carried some of her things and left the village in the dark when one will see her.

 She didn't know where she was going...

Where she will find herself, she wasn’t sure..
She just wanted to leave the village.

As she walked she began to feel dizzy and fell down…

   Victoria shook her head and tried waving the dizziness from her eyes. She stood up with the little strength she had. She needed food to keep her going and she was so thirty. She didn't even know where exactly she was. She managed her strength and kept walking.

    She stumbled on something and fell on the ground in the narrow path she had taken that night. Victoria noticed she had injured herself and she cried out in pains. 

Mama …
Mama….

Please don't turn your back on your only daughter, please forgive me and direct my path. Mama I'm so sorry. I want to fulfill the dreams I had promised you and Papa. Victoria kept crying, she tried to stand up and found out she couldn't.

  She felt dizzy again and fell to the ground. This time she passed out.

     Victoria opened her eyes slowly as the light from the morning sun smeared on her face. She looked around and found out she was inside a small hut. 

  The bed she lay on was wooden, a mat was placed perfectly at the end corner of the room. She could see some clothes scattered on top of some old bags inside the room. She couldn't tell where she was. She held her head trying to recall.

Seems like she had fainted after she had knocked her leg on something that she didn't see. She looked at her foot and it was swollen.

 Victoria leaped from the bed to the window to see where she was, she saw a man who look a bit disfigured sitting outside and talking to someone on the phone. She looked around the house then tried going to the door to open it. 

   As she opened the door, the man was at the door already and Victoria got startled as he glared at her. 

Please sir don’t kill me please Victoria begged.

  The man who mostly moves around at night had seen Victoria on the lonely narrow path that led to umuokpa village. She was lying on the ground, he had moved closer to her and realized she was alive.

Shhhh he hushed Victoria….
I’m not going to harm you.

What’s your name child? He asked her

My name is Victoria.. Victoria Linus sir she answered with fear.

He pointed towards his wooden bed and she leaped to the bed.

Victoria where were you going to that late at night alone? What about your parents?he asked again.

They are dead Victoria answered as a tear dropped down her cheek and shaking with fear.

I know you're wondering why I am disfigured. Let me tell you my story the man said clearing his throat. 

I was once a great man in my village. I was rich in cattles and lands. I earned respect from all corners of Ntohili village where I’m from. Some rumoured that I was going to take the king’s throne one day.

On a certain day, I came back and found my wife and son lying dead in my house. I called for help and people came running in. No one could explain the death of my wife and child. I cried alot , the hurt of loosing loved ones. Some rumoured that I killed my wife and child.

  Few days after, The king had summoned me to his palace. When I arrived, the palace guards were not available . I was surprised, but nevertheless I entered and saw the king sleeping on his throne. It was quite confusing, I greeted and he didn't respond. I went closer to feel his heart beat and found out the king was dead...

 Before I could scream, someone walked in on me placing my hand on the king's heart checking his heart beat. She screamed and people came running in accusing me of killing the king. 

No one wanted to hear me out, people called me all sorts of names. Some called me a human eater, some called me greedy while some called me a wizard.

I was beaten so hard and disfigured. I didn't know what happened but I was left for dead in the bush. Something kept me alive. I struggled alone and travelled very far away from my village and lived isolated here.

Just know you're safe with me here okay?

Victoria kept staring at him as she nodded slowly.

  Oh sorry the man said sighing. Pardon my manners, I prepared something for you. I know you will be famished when you would wake up. He stood up and went towards the little pot on top of the small table. He put the content inside a plate and brought it to Victoria.

 Victoria was so hungry that she couldn't say no to the meal, she collected the plate from the man and began gulping it down like a hungry Lion.

    Thank you sir for the food and saving my life. I wish I could repay you for your kindness towards me Victoria said to the man.

You will , I know you will the man said and moved towards the door. Holding the handle of the door, he turned and smiled to Victoria before leaving.

  Victoria sitting on the wooden bed looked around to see if she could find her bag. She saw her bag was open, she tried to reach for her bag and the file the principal handed to her slipped and fell. She bent down to pick the files which fell under the wooden bed.

 Victoria was shocked by what she saw under the wooden bed. Her eyes opened in amazement and she quickly used her hand to cover her mouth.

    She saw fresh human parts.

Is the strange looking man a human eater?

Does the man trade on human parts?

Has he been lying to her all along?

Where exactly is she?

What has she gotten herself into?
